To vote in New Jersey, you must meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship: You must be a United States citizen.
- Age: You must be at least 18 years old on or before Election Day.
- Residency: You must be a resident of New Jersey and of the county in which you are registering for at least 30 days before the election.
- Registration: You must be registered to vote. New Jersey offers online voter registration, and the deadline to register is 21 days before the election. You can also register in person at your county election office up until that deadline.
- Not Disqualified: You cannot be serving a sentence of incarceration due to a felony conviction. (Note: Once you have completed your sentence, including probation or parole, your voting rights are automatically restored in New Jersey, and you can re-register to vote.)
New Jersey also has same-day voter registration available during early voting and on Election Day, starting with the 2024 elections, allowing eligible individuals to register and vote provisionally at their polling place.
